THE FIRST SMILE: Indonesian Gamelan performance
Sunday 13 March, 2pm
Bottle Creek Gallery, Pātaka Art + Museum
The First Smile is a set of gamelan instruments and accompanying set of wayang kulit puppets, from Cirebon, West Java, which were brought to New Zealand in 1974 by Allan Thomas. This is your last chance to hear an amazing musical performance in our Bottle Creek Gallery space, and to farewell the shadow puppets before the exhibition closes.
The gamelan will be played by members of Gamelan Padhang Moncar, New Zealand’s first Javanese Gamelan orchestra. More information can be found here: http://gamelan.org.nz/links/the-first-smile-cirebon-gamelan/
