Pātaka Friends Art Awards 2018 Call For Entry

Pātaka is pleased to announce a call for entry for the 2018 Art Awards, organised by the Pātaka Friends. A chance for Porirua artists to showcase their talent to the region and be in to win one of five fantastic prizes.

The art comes in many different media, from sculpture, ceramics to painting. Prizes include – an Open Award, a Highly Commended Award, The Jane Hyder Painting Award, The Creativity and Promise Award and the all-important Viewers’ Choice Award, which visitors can vote on throughout the exhibition. All the work is for sale.

Taki Rua presents – HINE KIHAWAI

Sat 21 July 2018, 10.30am & 12.30pm

Taki Rua are holding two free performances of our te reo Māori play Hine Kihāwai at Pātaka on July 21. The first performance starts at 10:30am, the second at 12:30pm. The show is entirely in te reo Māori, but uses gestures and movement so that even non-speakers can follow along. The show runs for roughly 45 minutes. Suitable for all ages.

Pātaka Term 2 School Holiday Programme

Wed 11 & Fri 13 July 2018

Explore the work of Owen Mapp, a NZ master carver, and see his incredible bone carved artworks. Be inspired by his carved pendants of many shapes and sizes. Using oven baked clay create your own pendant to wear. Carve patterns and texture and garnish it with bits of shell and jewels. You will leave the classroom looking bedazzling wearing your new pendant.
