CAFE KAIZEN and PATAKA's JAPANESE GARDEN

Quite simply, Cafe Kaizen has the best coffee in town.  Set beside a traditional Japanese garden, Kaizen is a friendly haven within Pataka serving culinary delights throughout the day.

The Japanese garden was developed to celebrate Porirua’s sister-city relationship with Nishio City of Japan. The garden was created in the Karesansui style, which represents mountains and water through the use of rocks and gravel. The white rounded gravel is a visual metaphor of the sea while the combination of the small darker stones and larger boulders are symbolic of the mountains, waterfalls and streams. If you look carefully it is possible to see the Karetaki, the path of a dried up waterfall as it falls into the Karenagare or dry stream bed.
